Another Weird War Update: Vampire Weekend

My two werewolves have been keeping bad company this weekend.  The lady in the middle is also a Reaper Miniature, a lady vampire that reminds me of the Hammer Studios movies that troubled my pubescent dreams.  She joins the ranks of the baddies in my Weird War project.

When she’s not preening in the graveyard, she’s doing important work within the shadowy wing of the SS dominated by SS Gruppenfuhrer Strasser.  As anyone knows who’s seen Coppola’s Dracula (1992), it’s pretty much obligatory for powerful vampires to have a retinue of wayward young women.   Her duties will include interrogating captured Allied airmen, spying on the Gruppenfuhrer’s human rivals, and nighttime strolls along the Unter der Linden

I’m not entirely happy with her fangs.  She rather looks like she has two white straws stuck under her upper lip, but they do look noticeable from a distance.  On the plus side, I’m fairly happy with the flesh tones.

It’s rather an odd sort of funeral monument that the sculptor has chosen.  It rather looks like a Celtic cross with the top bit removed, but I suppose that gives her a place to park her ample charms.

Team Vampyre ready to put the bite on the Allies.

  1. Definately something from the Ahnenerbe SS. Nice work, Padre.

  2. I've always been a little unsure about this model because of the bizarre tombstone bit. Nice job on the blonde hair.

  3. Only thing about this sculpt that lets it down (And most other vampire sculpts at this scale) are the silly big teeth. O well, paintjob makes up for them regardless.

    Family vamp looks great together.

  4. Oh, I love the woman with the big pair of...teeth. She is a beauty! The werewolves are excellent too.

  5. "Azura's fangs entered the room, followed, at a respectful distance, by Azura."

I tend to think this might be a case of less is more: Azura the allurer would look fine but for the crying need for hyperdontal work, by a specialist hyperdontist, possibly. Vampirella the Vamp (or is she Rosita the Raunchy?) looks suitably vampirish just by the general look, without the rather elephantine tusks. Can they be sculpted back a bit, do you reckon?

Otherwise I reckon that's a very nice figure, helped, I dare say, by some well engineered foundation garments... :-)

  6. Very nice paintwork Michael! The fangs do look a bit over the top!

  7. Well, chaps, thanks, or should I say, fangs, for all the comments. I agree with Ion that the teeth are almost as disproportionate as are her, well ..... I HATE to revisit a figure I've declared finished, but I think I will take a tiny file and se what I can do to her "tusks"..
My next post will be a more sensible topic, I promise.

  8. Good to see you revisit this theme again. I really like the group shot at the end of the post. I seem to remember a few of these coming from a previous Painting Challenge. Great work Mike!
